my observations on everything right and wrong with the world - starting with myself.

when I was in the Army Reserves, every three months, I had to undergo the APFT, or the Army Physical Fitness Test, which consisted of the following:

- your best time for a 2-mile run
- your maximum number of situps in 2 minutes
- your maximum number of pushups in 2 minutes

I never failed a "PT Test"...in fact, I actually improved in some areas as time passed. Your 'passing' standard would depend on your height, weight, and age...and if you exceeded your alloted weight for your age, you would be put on remedial PT until you met your target weight.

From my understanding, the APFT standards have NEVER CHANGED since their inception.

Army standards may be different from ordinary civilian standards, but...whatever happened to standards?

it's commonly known to the rest of the world that Americans are big, fat, and lazy.

...but seriously, people. it's getting out of hand.

the growing size of the average American is not something we should be proud of or should make accomodations for.

it's no wonder that compact and subcompact vehicles are not popular here in the USA...because most Americans can't fit inside of them!

if I could, I'd love to be driving a Smart Fortwo...but there's no chance we'd ever see them here...

I've been warming up to "Family Guy" lately...they've been showing reruns on Cartoon Network and new episodes on Fox...and with the exception of a very strange and so-wrong-it's-wrong show this past week, "Family Guy" is actually quite hilarious and targeted towards people who have a dry sense of humor.

Anyway, we recently watched a show that involved Brian the dog dressed up as a banana and singing a crazy "It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time" song. I had no idea where this song came from or what the 'cultural' relevance of the song was...so, I looked it up.

Apparently, I wasn't the only clueless person around, but this link explains "Peanut Butter Jelly Time"...

It's peanut butter jelly time - where you at? where you at? there you go! there you go! It's peanut butter jelly with a baseball bat!!!

damn, I've got that song stuck in my head now.

Someone at The Onion was probably a Classics major...because they've published several articles that have blatant Classical references, which I think is totally cool.

Here's one:

Mythbusters Team Struck Down by Zeus

And another:

Today's Women Don't Like It When You Come To Them As A Bull Or Swan

I've been a big fan of the Onion since I found out about them MANY years ago...hell, I even subscribed to their print edition for a year. I'm glad that they finally decided to allow unlimited access to all of their archived articles - something which wasn't possible last year.
