my observations on everything right and wrong with the world - starting with myself.

...and of all things, I find this online:

This short film was done by a friend of mine while I was still at UCLA.

Look! I have hair!
To continue with the "Japanese" posts from yesterday, I present this film, the "Japanese Tradition - Sushi"

At first, I couldn't figure out if it was a 'serious' film, but as you watch it, you'll realize that it's not...and at the same time, it is.

:)

I didn't know that there was a "Toyota Supra" sushi?!?!

I've always been a fan of ad-libbed stuff...Drew Carey's "Whose Line is it Anyway" (of course, an American take on the British classic) always comes to mind when I think of improvisational comedy.

Anyway, there's a 'bit' on "Whose Line is it Anyway" where two or three of the comedians watch a clip from a movie and ad-lib their own dialogue. It's always hilarious and almost always inappropriate.

Well, that ad-libbing has now been brought online via foshata!

Here's a description from their 'about' page:

about foshata
hi, i'm apm. and i love you. if you have comments, suggestions or problems then post on the forums, on the myspace group or contact me.

what is foshata?
there once was a website for Fanta Shokata which let you add subtitles to foreign video clips. i liked it a lot, but then it went away and that made me sad. so really my only incentive to make this site was to be less sad.. which is kinda depressing. but in a larger sense, i value creativity highly and encouraging creativity through foshata makes me happy.

where did you get these video clips from?
most of them are from this collection of Japanese commercials. i edit them for length and quirkyness before putting them on this site.
have a Japanese video clip you think would work great here? email me!

what are they really saying in these commercials?
i haven't a clue, but if you're pretty good with Japanese please email me some translations, i will post them here.

I just ran across another great diversion...which I kind of needed after a company-mandated meeting which took up an hour-and-a-half of my time.

here it is: spamusement.

It's a great concept - they take the 'subject' lines of spam emails and attempt to make them come to life through poorly-drawn cartoons.

this one is my favorite, not just because I like Cookie Monster, but also because I saw this actual spam headline in my gmail spam folder this morning. The caption on the picture (and the subject line of the spam) is:

"HELLO ME NOT DEAD"

This is a great Friday morning diversion:

Create your own BAND

It's a unique mix of mixing and matching.

Here's my Sugar Ray cover band: "the Casanova Frankensteins".

Microsoft has finally announced the reality of their "origami", or Ultra-Mobile PC (UMPC). It's being touted as the latest and greatest all-in-one portable solution...

But in all honesty, who would want to lug this big brick around? Also, for the price ($999 for the best one), why wouldn't you just want a laptop or a tablet PC?

Also, come to think of it, my Tapwave Zodiac does almost everything that the UMPC is supposed to be able to do...with the added ability of being pocketable, having an intuitive user interface...and the fact that I only spent $80 for my Zodiac 1. If I wanted GPS capability, I could buy an SDIO GPS card.

And let's face it...something new and powerful that is meant to make life less complicated actually does the opposite. I'll have to admit that I feel the same way about my Zodiac. I initially purchased it because I wanted a color interface for my Datebook, but with all of its capabilities, I now have the following within my reach:

- Doom 2
- an NES emulator with hundreds of NES ROMs
- a LOT of games
- MP3 playback
- videos downloaded from google video
- all of the pictures of my son and family
- my resume and poetry
- lots of ebooks
- sudoku

oh, and let's not forget all of the PIM stuff (calendar, contacts, to-do list...)!

It looks like I'm not the only one with 'productivity' on their mind though. Check out this picture:

yep. that looks like a business professional in a suit...in the first class section of an airplane...standing in the aisle and playing sudoku.
